Prayer For Bryson

from Bestow by Stephen Simmons

/

about

I wrote this when my first Nephew was just a few years old, lone before I ever released an album. I recently re-recorded it at my Sister's request for his high school graduation; along with the rest of this collection.

lyrics

PRAYER FOR BRYSON

It's a funny world we live in
Buddy you and me
This funny little human being
Still so much of a mystery
You're growing up everyday
You're Mama says 'just like a weed'
I wish sometimes you'd stay this age
That your innocence would never leave

But you’re going to grow up
And I'm sure one day you'll ask me
How butterflies can come from worms
How birds can fly and bees can sting
Did I like school when I was your age
How some kids can be so mean
How come the sky above is blue
Why some Daddy's choose to leave

Chorus:
Tonight I say a prayer for you
As I watch you sleep
I pray the Lord will smile on you
And bring you those sweet dreams
There's a lot of things in this ole world
That you have yet to see
I pray you always grace
And in yourself always believe

Now little boys have to grow up
Someday to be a man
I fear this world will only get colder
And as it is sometimes it's all I can stand
Your Mama does the best for you
That a young woman can
The way she takes care of you
I see little sister's stronger than I am

It's an Uncle's job to give advice
And spoil you when I can
But I love you like you are my own
So I'll always try to be more than that
Someday I just might have kids of my own
But you’ll never have to worry ‘bout me
I love you now, I'll love you then,
Buddy my love for you will never leave

Chorus
