SMOKE & MIRRORS

by Stephen Simmons

/

about

This is a song my Dad wrote with my Grandmother many years ago. We recorded it during the Family Album sessions in Woodbury at my grandparent's home. It didn't make sense in the context of the album, but we recorded a version of it with my Dad and Uncle Glen singing harmony.

lyrics

SMOKE AND MIRRORS

I got into bed late last night
As quiet as I could be
Losing myself
In late night tv

Must have been around two
In the middle of your dream
You cried out in your sleep
But you weren’t talking to me

Chorus:
Through smoke and mirrors I clearly see
The tears you’re crying babe they’re not for me
When we had true love there never could be
No smoke and mirrors between you and me

Lie to myself
About love and loss
And how that it’s better
Than never loving at all

The fog in the mirror
Hiding what it shows
Like tears in your eyes
From too much smoke

Chorus
