Open Letter To The Troops

OPEN LETTER TO THE TROOPS

Now this is an open letter to the troops
And a new year’s resolution

Lately more and more of us
Have become less and less scared
To speak out about this war
And what’s going on over there
Now this ain’t no protest song
Hell, it’s a song of thanks
To every man and woman in the military
Of every rank

A lot of us thought this war was wrong from the start
We told our friends but we didn’t exactly take it to the streets
The corporate media drowned us out all anyways
Just between you and me
Some people say that we should all just shut up
And sing “Hail To The Chief”
No matter what kinda fool
That the things he does makes him seem to be

But I’m tired of watching this crap play out
Like some kinda Shakespearean tragedy
And some President
Who just seems worried about his own legacy
None of us over here have even been asked to sacrifice
With the exception of your families
We’re not even asked to conserve
Hell, we got tax breaks and they called it ‘relief’

Anyways I guess all I’m trying to say
Is ‘thanks a lot’
Cause everybody over here appreciates what you do
Whether you hear about it or not
And nothing that anybody’s ever said
Has ever been directed at any of you
No matter how many of our words
Have been twisted around by Fox News

I want to say ‘thank you’ for your sacrifice
And your courage in such a dark hour
And I pray all of us over here have the balls to watch your backs
While you’re over there watching ours
So I guess all I want to leave you with
Is a little prayer that you come back home safe
And a little prayer that more of us grow a set over here
And learn to speak up and be as brave

No, this ain’t no protest song
This is just a song of thanks
