A Lullaby

from by Stephen Simmons

When my Niece was born, a dear old friend planted the thought in my head that I should write her a lullaby. I've never been good at following directions, one reason I can't write what others would have me do. So instead of a Lullaby I wrote her a song for all the things I wanted for her in life. Things I could never fit into a lullaby.

May the sun always find you
May the clouds part from your skies
And the truth never unkind
May your mind be open and enlightened
May your heart be loving and beat in time
Oh not like mine

Oh I wish everything for you child
But I hope you won't mind won't all fit in a Lullaby

I'm your blood a long long line of
Dreamers in your Family who conspire in hope
A family code
Like a link to your own Cosmos
I touched the hands of the ones you never did know
But you feel them in your soul

May you never be scared of the night time
May you never be afraid to read the names on the graves
This World is only one phase
You're the future but child be mindful
We were once too in our day
Now we pass our love on to you in good faith
